The Eurovision Song Contest presents us with a lie or a naive simulacrum: a world of total peace and happiness. In several of my works, I play with the idea of creating a song festival dedicated to intellectuals — an absurd and humorous idea in which I pretend to want to educate the people. Countries would not be represented by a singer but by an important representative of the national culture.

First, one sees Don Quixote in the middle of the paravent. He is the ambassador of Spain. In order to find a representative for each country, I had to replace the novel's characters with other actors. On the left, the servant Sancho has made way for Virgil, who helped Dante. On the right, I had Dame Dulcinea, replaced by a representative and mistress of German literature: Lotte. After its completion, I discovered that the image used to create Lotte's portrait is actually a portrait of Marie-Antoinette. So, you could say, she left the German camp to join that of the Austrians.

The paravent is also a prop that flirts with the object as a painting-sculpture. It is the statement of the image that wants to exist autonomously.
