Acryl, Lacquer, Medium and (Iridescent) Pigments
on Digitally painted print on Dibond.
In this series, I am looking for the artificial painting, whereby the digital file must already be accepted as a painting in itself. I try to digitally convert the logic and nature of the medium of painting, here through a print. The depth of the tradition of the medium of painting must never be lost during this metamorphosis.
My practice often comes from a passion for collecting things. Besides my collection of tarot cards, I started collecting old Chromo pictures from the brand OXO. Like a real encyclopedia, they inform about the history of the world, of populations, cultures, and the entire animal and plant kingdom. Through these existing images, I want to investigate the relationship between digital and analog painting.
Moreover, it is an investigation into how images and symbols relate within one image plane. In the first place, the paintings tell a story through their different images. Parallel to this, the coherence of the various works in the space creates a meta-narrative.
By placing an image of Joan of Arc next to Napoleon and an image of a penguin, an ostrich, or a tobacco plantation, one creates openings for the spectator. Thanks to these openings, spectators can write their own screenplay.
